Metal Roofing Texas supplies the roof and certifies the installer. A certified Interlock installer is assigned to your project, gives you a written proposal, does the work and sets the workmanship terms. The material carries the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty, issued by Interlock Roofing.

    A certified installer is assigned

    An independent Texas roofing contractor, certified by the manufacturer on this system, is assigned to your project. The installer visits, measures and looks at the deck and the attic, because the fastening, and what TWIA requires in a coastal county, depend on what is actually there.

    The installer's written proposal

    The price, the profile and color, the deck and ventilation work and the schedule, in a written contract with the installer's business name and certificate of insurance. The contract is between you and the installer.

  4. Step 4

    The installer does the work

    The installer pulls the permit with your city where one is required and installs the roof to the manufacturer's specification. Workmanship terms come from the installer.

    The Guardian warranty

    Once the installation contract is paid in full, the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty, issued by Interlock Roofing, covers the material and finish for you, and transfers once when you sell.

A Texas roof gets the country's busiest large-hail corridor, a cooling season that runs from April to October, hurricanes and salt air on the Gulf Coast and straight-line wind everywhere else. Here is what an Interlock® aluminum roof does about each.

Hail

Texas hail, and the highest impact class there is

North and Central Texas, from Dallas–Fort Worth to Austin, San Antonio and the Hill Country, take more large hail than almost anywhere in the country. The Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake and Mediterranean Tile profiles carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, verified by Intertek for Delta Building Products: the highest class in the standard. Very large hail can leave a cosmetic mark on any metal roof; the Guardian warranty covers splitting, cracking and perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches.

Wind

Hurricanes on the coast, straight-line wind everywhere else

Texas adopts the International Residential Code, and what a city inspector checks is the ICC-ES evaluation report: ESR-1790 evaluates the Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake and Mediterranean Tile profiles for wind uplift. The panels lock on all four sides with no fastener in the weather. Wind resistance warranted to 120 mph when installed to manufacturer specification.

Heat

Reflective, CRRC-rated colors for a cooling season that runs April to October

The sun is what finishes a Texas asphalt roof between hailstorms: the oils bake out, the shingles curl and the granules go. A reflective CRRC-rated color keeps more solar heat off the attic, and the Alunar® 70% PVDF finish is designed and tested to meet AAMA 2605 with a 30-year coating warranty. What shows on the bill depends on attic insulation and ventilation as much as on the roof, so nobody should quote you a percentage.

Salt

Gulf air from Brownsville to Beaumont. Aluminum has no iron to rust

Every steel panel is cut somewhere. Aluminum contains no iron and cannot rust. Near the water, the assigned installer specifies stainless or aluminum fasteners to match.

Coast

TWIA counties have their own rules

In the fourteen first-tier coastal counties, windstorm coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association runs under the Texas Department of Insurance's own product and installation requirements. The assigned installer tells you what applies at your address before anything is signed.

Fire

Class A, stated the precise way

Under ASTM E108 the fire classification belongs to an assembly, not to a panel. For this system that reads Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly, over GAF VersaShield underlayment as evaluated in ICC-ES ESR-2053. Aluminum itself does not ignite.

Texas rules worth knowing before you sign

Texas regulates roofing differently from most states. Four things to know.

No state roofing license

Texas does not license roofing contractors. Ask for a certificate of insurance, the contractor's registration with your city where the city requires one, and references.

Your deductible

A contractor may not pay, waive or rebate your insurance deductible (Business & Commerce Code § 27.02). Any coverage question is between you and your carrier.

Your HOA

An association may not prohibit roofing designed to resist wind or hail or to save energy, if it resembles the subdivision's shingles, is more durable than them and of equal or superior quality, and matches the look of the surrounding properties (Property Code § 202.011).

The collection

Four profiles, all heavy-gauge aluminum. All within ESR-1790.

The look belongs to your home; the performance belongs to the metal. Every profile needs a minimum 3/12 roof slope. Full specifications are the manufacturer's to publish. Standing seam is outside the ICC-ES report and is not offered through Metal Roofing Texas. Solid copper is a separate material: copper roofing.

Who installs the roof?

Does Texas license roofing contractors?

No. Texas issues no state roofing license, so no roofer can show you one. Ask any contractor for a certificate of insurance, their registration with your city where the city requires it, and references. Certified here means certified by the manufacturer on this system.

Will hail dent an aluminum roof?

Very large hail can leave a cosmetic mark on any metal roof. The Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake and Mediterranean Tile profiles carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, verified by Intertek for Delta Building Products, and the Guardian warranty covers splitting, cracking and perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Any insurance credit for an impact rating is your carrier's decision.

Is the roof approved for Texas wind?

Texas has no state product-approval program; your city's building department checks the ICC-ES evaluation report. ESR-1790 covers the Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake and Mediterranean Tile profiles for the International Residential and Building Codes, which Texas adopts. Wind resistance is warranted to 120 mph when installed to manufacturer specification. In the first-tier coastal counties, TWIA's requirements also apply, and the installer confirms them for your address.

Can my HOA stop a metal roof?

Texas Property Code § 202.011 stops a property owners' association from prohibiting roofing designed to resist wind or hail or to save energy, as long as it resembles the shingles used in the subdivision, is more durable than them and of equal or superior quality, and matches the look of the surrounding properties. The association can still regulate appearance, which is why the profiles look like slate, shingle, shake or tile.

Can a roofer pay my insurance deductible?

No. Texas law (Business & Commerce Code § 27.02) prohibits a contractor from paying, waiving or rebating your insurance deductible. A roofer who offers to is telling you how they operate. Your deductible and any coverage questions are between you and your carrier.
